Jon Moses Nyatheli is an authentic independent South African singer and songwriter. Born in the then Venda Republic in the early seventies, his talent started manifesting way back in the early eighties when he started singing in family meetings and school assemblies. He attributes his musical talent partly to his father who used to play the ‘timbira’, an African instrument made out of wood and steel. In high school, he joined a Christian band called the Jubilee, where a fellow band member taught him how to play chords on the acoustic guitar. And so began a journey which culminated in the birth of a singer, song-writer and producer.
In 1994 he enrolled at the University of Venda’s music department, exposing him to the basics of classical music. Upon completion of this programme, he went on to further his studies at the University of Pretoria for two years, which allowed him to mature in the business of music.
It was during his years at the University of Pretoria that he was offered a record deal, when he recorded his first album in collaboration with Bulayo Bing. This gave him opportunity to share the stage with some of the most prominent artistes in South Africa. He toured nationally with the Joshua Generation group as one of their vocalists, a tour which attracted throngs to their country-wide shows.
After years of writing and producing for other artists, Jon Moses Nyatheli is currently working on a new album, which will feature Christian soul music. Through his music, he seeks to communicate honestly and purely with the gift that God has given him. His vision remains to minister in song to audiences across the globe.
